TopChart: Top23 Sakura PVs

It’s the first day of spring so I’ve created a TopChart full of PVs about sakura (cherry blossoms). As most of you know, sakura is major part of Japanese culture, so much so that artists release songs about sakura every year.

I’ve judged each PV on the actual song as well as the PV itself. This is the most extensive TopChart I’ve created so far, so sit back, relax and ENJOY!!!

23. 294 (Tsukushi) - Sakura Hitohira
A crappy PV, with a crappy song and some lame dancing.

22. Kim Jeong Hoon – Sakura Tears
Korean actors don’t make good Japanese singers, period.

21. MM Sakuragumi – Sakura Mankai
2nd single of a Hello Project subgroup, made up of Morning Musume members. I’ve seen better PVs from MM.

20. MARIA – Yurari Ouzora
They should stick to their specialty: rock songs.

19. C-ute – Sakura Chirai
This was their first major release. I don’t have much to say…its like every other C-ute PV…bad dancing, obvious lip-syncing and a lot of close-up shots.

18. Shounen Kamikaze – Sakura re Capsule
Song was absolutely horrible, but some parts of the PV was alright.

17. Moriyama Naotaro – Sakura
Song wasn’t that bad, but the PV has to be the most boring, low-production quality PV I’ve EVER seen.［(－－)］ZZzzz

16. Nakashima Mika – Sakura ~Hanagasumi~
Her newest single. Didn’t like the PV, Nakashima = ballet dancer is just wrong!…

15. Takei Shiori – Sakura Iro
PV is terrible, but song is good.

14. Arashi – Sakura Sake
Reached #1 on charts. Song was catchy, but I didn’t like the PV (I’m not a huge fan of Arashi like every female J-pop fan out there (-_-‘)

13. Kawabe Chieco – Sakura Kiss
Her last single before going into modeling. A good pop song with probably the weirdest PV.

12. Aki Angela – Sakurairo
I’m not a huge fan of Aki Angela. PV was pretty boring and song was ok, but it wins 2nd place for most cherry blossom petals (after PV #5).

11. YUI – CHE.R.RY
Didn’t like the PV, too many 2D backgrounds and fake animals. Like every other Yui song, it was good on the ears.

10. AKB48 – Sakura no Hanabira Tachi
A new version of their debut single. First few minutes and last few minutes don’t have any vocals. Part with one of the girls kissing the statue is a bit weird.

9. Utada Hirkaru – Sakura Drops
Became 6th best selling single of 2002. Some special effects were nice, but I thought this wasn’t her best single.

8. aiko – Sakura no Toki
Released in 2000, it’s one of the oldest in the list. PV is very boring, but the song is catchy.

7. RYTHEM – Sakura Uta
PV wasn’t anything special and the old man doesn’t really “fit in”. Song was nice though.

6. Every Little Thing – Sakurabito
Liked how PV was dark, but beautiful at the same time. Song was also pretty good.

5. The Elephant Kashimashi – Sakura no Hana Maiagaru Michi wo
I liked their unique rock style, but PVs wasn’t much (other than having a whole lot of cherry blossom petals).

4. Ketsumeishi – Sakura
Extremely popular song with 2nd most sales in 2005. PV has a nice story to it.

3. Hoshimura Mai – Sakura Biyori
This was the ending for the popular anime, Bleach. Didn’t think PV was that good, but the song made up for it.

2. Ikimonogakari – Hana wa Sakura Kimi wa Utsukushi
This song is actually a new version of an old song. Loved the song (esp. the beginning), but what’s with those sub par sakura effects.

1. Kobukuro – Sakura
It reached 3rd spot on charts and remained on for more than 60 weeks. Great song and a great PV that tells a nice story.
